HERB Balm - Lemon 8.5cm/9cm
A bushy upright perennial with wrinkled, light green leaves and spikes of yellow flowers from June to August. Can be used in stuffings, jams, fruit salads, vegetable salads and fruit drinks. Height - 60-120cm (2-4ft); Spread - 45cm (18in). Prefers a well-drained soil in a sunny position.

An evergreen perennial herb with a prostrate habit. A dense mat of aromatic green foliage is produced which never produces flowers so can make an ideal lawn or fragrant container plant. Will grow in most well-drained soils in a sunny position.

Clump forming perennial with long thin flat leaves and pretty white flowers. The mild garlic flavoured leaves can be chopped and added to salads, cooked vegetables, soups, egg and cheese dishes. (Coriandrum sativum). An annual with white flowers in summer followed by round seeds. The leaves before flowering have the best flavour. Whole plant is edible -both the leaves and the seeds. Height - 60cm (24in). Prefers a very well-drained sunny position.

A tall and graceful perennial herb sometimes mistaken for dill but with a completely different taste and fragrance. Very fine green leaves and bright yellow flowers. Used primarily with fish sauces and cooked vegetables. Height - Up to 1.5m (Up to 5ft). Prefers a sunny site in well-drained soil.

'Lavender'. A compact bushy evergreen shrub with narrow silvery grey leaves and spikes of dark purple flowers from July to August. Height - 60cm (24in); Spread - 75cm (30in). Prefers a sunny position in well drained soil.

(Mentha x piperita f. citrata). Purple flowers from summer to autumn. Oval, shiny, mid green, peppermint and basil scented leaves. Prefers a sunny position in moist, well-drained soil. Height - 40cm (16in). Use in oils and vinegars.

Dark green leaves with dark veins. Dense clusters of mauve-pink flowers from June to August. Can be grown in pots. The extra strong peppermint flavour has a hint of chocolate. Add to puddings, Summer drinks and tea. Prefers sun or part-shade in moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Height - 60cm (2ft).

HERB Pennyroyal - Creeping 9cm
A vigorous, low-growing plant which forms a carpet of dark green leaves with a strong peppermint scent and flavour. Whorls of small mauve flowers in Summer. Can be grown in pots and tubs. Prefers partial shade in moist but well-drained soil. Useful as an insect repellent. Height - 10cm (4in).
